Priory Shout Out on Pop City

Pop City is an up to date electronic magazine of what's going on in Pittsburgh. It successfully strives to go wide and deep about what's going on in Pittsburgh, and frequently uncovers some hidden gems in the fabric of the city. The Priory Hotel got a nice mention in travel writer's Elaine Labalme's "New Girl in Town" column in Pop City. The column's topic was "hip" places in Pittsburgh, and we got a shout out as a place recommended by Andy Warhol Director Tom Sokolowski for both lodging and an opening party. I'm not sure how "hip" we are, but Tom Sokolowski is and we're trying!
Elaine also has her own website featuring her travel writing, theroadsage.com. It's well worth a look.

If you've stayed at The Priory during the week, you may recognize one of the people featured in the column, Jamal Krolowitz of "Tweek" designs. When not engaged in artistic pursuits, Jamal helps us out in our morning food service, raising our hipness factor significantly when he is around. That's Jamal above, sans Priory uniform.

Unrepentant St. Patrick's Party Was a Rousing Success

The incomparable Rachel Fitzgerald. Below: Your correspondent with the band.
Chris "Seanchai" Byrne
Our Unrepentant St. Patrick's Party held on Friday, March 5, was a huge success. Our featured act, Seanchai & the Unity Squad, were in fine voice and played their unique mix of traditional celtic, hip hop, and reggae with aplomb. The crowd, many of whom are committed Irish patriots, thrilled to Seanchai's message of a united Ireland. The food provided by our chefs Pete Phillipy and Mike Henney was fantastic, with a top round and their version of the Reuben being served, along with some excellent breaded cod. Guinness was poured and Irish Coffees served! It was in all a very entertaining and very fun evening.

Ground Breaking Ceremony for the Priory Hotel’s New Addition

Today, Wednesday, March 3, 2010, 10:00 a.m.

The Priory Hotel, 614 Pressley Street (Deutschtown), Pittsburgh, PA 15212

In January, 2008 an apartment building beside the historic Priory Hotel burned to the ground damaging the hotel. The Priory Hospitality Group purchased property and plans are underway to build a new 7,800 square-foot structure with 17 new guest rooms and an elevator to complement the existing 24 room hotel by October, 2010.

City of Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, who has been a great supporter and promoter of development in his home district of the City's North Side, will attend the ground breaking ceremony.

The groundbreaking ceremony is open to the public and attendees may enjoy refreshments afterward at Pittsburgh’s Grand Hall (http://www.pittsburghsgrandhall.com).

Family owned and operated by the Graf family since 1986, the Priory Hospitality Group properties consist of the Priory Hotel a 24-room European-style boutique hotel on Pittsburgh's North Shore rated the best in Pittsburgh by Zagat Survey® (fifth edition); Pittsburgh’s Grand Hall at the Priory located adjacent to the hotel and situated in the former St. Mary’s German Catholic Church, which offers a breathtaking space for weddings, banquets, parties, charity events and gatherings of all types; and the award-winning Priory Fine Pastries custom bakery. In addition, it is a leader in the revitalization effort of the National Register District of Deutschtown (http://www.deutschtown.org).
