Columbus (the Explorer not the City)

Exact replicas of Pinta and Santa Maria, two of the three ships sailed by Christopher Columbus, will be stopping in Pittsburgh for a stay at the end of September/ beginning of October.  The ships are available for touring for a modest fee, and promise to be truly interesting.

Here's a Post-Gazette story on the arrival of the ships.

LST in Pittsburgh

The last remaining LST in the world (Landing Ship, Tank) is docking in Pittsburgh this weekend.  The LST transported tanks and troops directly to the beaches of Europe during WWII, and was a key component in the Allied victory.  The ship is docked at the North Shore, by Heinz Field, and is open for tour.

Here is a story from our local NPR affiliate on the LST in Pittsburgh.
