Time Magazine: Pittsburgh in Nine Photos
Time Magazine put out a recent photo essay on Pittsburgh in nine photos, showing the new Pittsburgh which has emerged from the collapse of the steel industry thirty years ago.
The photo above shows a faded advertisement for the Uneeda Biscuit in Lawrenceville, which was the first cracker packaged for sale. Nabisco (which had a large plant here, now known as Bakery Square) through its now parent company Kraft, discontinued the brand in 2010.

Exhibit A: Pittsburghers are Nuts
An annual event cooked up by some masochists occurs every Saturday after Thanksgiving here in Pittsburgh, the Dirty Dozen bike race/ hill climb. It challenges cyclists to climb 13 of the steepest hills in the city, all in one day. Having driven up and down many of these hills myself, I can attest that it's terrifying traversing them in a car, much less on a bicycle at the end of November!
Here's a piece by the Washington Post covering our little corner of craziness!
