Donnybrook Redux
Referencing my prior post regarding the Donnybrook boxing match that we hosted, I was pleased to have met and worked with Ireland's only boxing gold medalist, Michael Carruth. Michael boxed as a lightweight at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, and then as a welterweight at the 1992 games in Barcelona. In Barcelona he upset heavily favored Juan Hernandez Sierra of Cuba to win the gold medal. Michael does a fabulous job coaching kids (and younger adults) at his Trinity Boys Boxing Club in Dublin, teaching them the discipline and tenacity required by the sport. He's a great sportsman and a great ambassador for Ireland.
See Michael's Olympic bout with Sierra here.
Pictured above are Michael and I, and Michael, Donnybrook promoter Mike Diven, and I. In the middle is Mike Carruth's gold medal.
