The Carlton Restaurant in downtown Pittsburgh consistently offers among the best, most professional service in the city and one of the most creative, well executed menus. It's extensive wine list is legendary, and the Carlton is a personal favorite of mine.
The Carlton is, unfortunately (from my standpoint; fortunately from their standpoint) taking a hiatus while the restaurant undergoes a massive renovation starting in the end of June. This means no Carlton wine dinners for a while. The two swan song wine dinners for the summer are on June 11 and June 18, and the proceeds of the wine dinners go to the restaurant's staff while they await the restaurant's re-opening in the fall. One of the dinners features a taste of an '81 Chateau Margaux, a rarity if there ever was one.
If in Pittsburgh on these dates, treat yourself to one or both of these dinners. You won't be disappointed.
